šŸˆā€ā¬› Meet Goddess Dreamer: Our Journey to Adopting a Shelter Cat

Cats have been part of the Dream Worldtrotter journey for years. Having visited 10 cat cafƩs around the world, those experiences eventually inspired me to create the World Cat CafƩ Passport. Each cafƩ gave an opportunity to connect with cats, learn about different approaches to animal care, and create travel memories together.

Recently, that love of cats led us somewhere even more meaningful: welcoming my baby Dreamer into our family.

Dreamer is a nine-month-old shelter cat with an independent spirit, a sweet nature, and endless curiosity. Adopting a shelter cat into a forever home did not begin exactly as we expected, but perhaps that is what makes it feel so right.

Adopting a Shelter Cat: When a Cat CafƩ Visit Did Not Go as Planned

My son and I visited Itty Bitty Kitty CafƩ genuinely hoping to adopt a cat to give a forever home to. Although the volunteers were kind, the overall experience was disappointing and did not give us the connection or confidence we hoped to feel while making such an important decision.

We could have allowed that experience to end our search, but we knew we were ready to give a cat a loving home. Instead of forcing a decision that did not feel right, we chose to keep looking.

That choice led us to adopting a shelter cat a no-kill shelter.

Adopting a Shelter Cat: Being Chosen By Dreamer

At the shelter, we were chosen by the cat who was meant to become part of our family. My son chose her name: Dreamer.

The name immediately felt special. Dreams are at the heart of Dream Worldtrotter—from pursuing meaningful travel goals to finding new possibilities after an unexpected change. Now, Dreamer brings that same spirit into our home in her own playful and curious way.

She is not simply part of the Dream Worldtrotter story. First and most importantly, she is part of our family.

Adopting a Shelter Cat: Independent, Sweet, and Curious

Dreamer already has a personality all her own. She is independent and enjoys choosing when and where she wants to relax, but she is also incredibly sweet and loves playing with her family.

Her cat tree is one of her favorite places. Sometimes she climbs and plays; other times she settles in and lounges as though it were designed especially for her—which, of course, it was.

Dreamer is also endlessly curious. When she looks through the windows and spots birds outside, her calm expression changes and she goes straight into ā€œhunter mode.ā€ She watches every movement with complete concentration, reminding us that even the sweetest indoor cat still carries strong natural instincts.

Whether she is playing, resting on her tree, spending time with us, or studying the world beyond the window, Dreamer continues to show us more of who she is each day.

Adopting a Shelter Cat: How Dreamer Connects to Our Cat CafƩ Travels

The World Cat CafƩ Passport grew from the memories created while visiting cat cafƩs in different cities and countries. Those adventures helped deepen our appreciation for cats and for the different ways people around the world create spaces centered on them.

Dreamer's arrival brings that story home.

Our cat cafƩ travels were never only about checking destinations off a list. They were about connection, curiosity, and the joy animals can bring into our lives. Adopting Dreamer transformed those travel experiences into a new family chapter that continues every day.

Adopting a Shelter Cat: Sometimes Life Becomes a Redirection

Our experience at one cat cafƩ was not what we hoped it would be, but it redirected us toward the no-kill shelter where we were chosen by Dreamer. That does not erase the disappointment; it simply reminds us life can lead somewhere meaningful even when it does not unfold according to plan.

That lesson reflects so much of what Dream Worldtrotter represents: an unexpected turn does not always mean the journey is over. Sometimes it points us toward a better-fitting next step.

For our family, that next step had bright eyes, a curious personality, and a name that could not be more perfect.

Welcome to the family, Dreamer.
