From Layoff to 7 Continents Week 15: Preparing for Antarctica
When I first set the goal of visiting all seven continents, Antarctica felt like a distant dream.
Today, that dream is becoming a reality.
As my departure gets closer, I've realized that preparing for Antarctica is unlike preparing for any other trip I've taken. Antarctica is one of the most remote places on Earth, and it requires thoughtful planning, the right equipment, and physical preparation.
Preparing Physically for Antarctica
One of the biggest changes I've made is developing an exercise plan to prepare for trekking through snow and uneven terrain.
While researching what to expect during the expedition, I realized that building strength, endurance, and stability would help me enjoy the experience even more. My goal isn't simply to reach Antarctica—it's to feel confident and fully prepared when I step ashore.
I've been using Planfit app to guide my training and stay consistent with my workouts.

Choosing the Right Antarctica Gear
Another important part of preparing for Antarctica has been choosing the proper clothing.
I recently purchased my expedition coat, which will help keep me warm during shore excursions. Having the right outerwear is one of the most important parts of preparing for Antarctica, and I wanted to make sure I invested in equipment designed for the conditions I'll encounter.

More Than Packing a Suitcase
Preparing for Antarctica isn't just about buying gear.
It's about learning what to expect, reviewing packing lists, researching the expedition, and making sure every detail is in place before departure.
Every checklist I complete brings me one step closer to this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Reflecting on the Journey
As I prepare for South America and Antarctica, I've been thinking about how this journey began.
After being laid off, I decided to pursue a dream that had been on my heart for years. That decision eventually became From Layoff to 7 Continents.
Since then, I've explored five continents, experienced incredible cultures, and learned that growth often happens when we choose to move forward despite uncertainty.
Now, only two continents remain.

The Adventure Begins Before the Flight
Preparing for Antarctica has reminded me that meaningful goals aren't achieved in a single moment.
They're built through preparation, consistency, and showing up every day—even when no one else sees the work.
Every workout.
Every piece of gear.
Every item checked off my packing list.
Each one brings me one step closer to standing on my seventh continent.
Thank you for following my journey. I can't wait to share the next chapter as I continue toward South America and Antarctica.
